Southern New Mexico Engagement in the Mesilla Valley Pecan Trees

New Mexico is home to some of the most beautiful landscapes in the Southwest, making it one of my favorite places to photograph couples. While I absolutely love documenting love stories in El Paso, there's something so special about traveling just outside the city to capture moments in locations that feel peaceful, unique, and full of character.

A Session They Had Been Dreaming Of

For couples looking for engagement photos near Las Cruces or somewhere that feels both romantic and timeless, the Mesilla Valley Pecan Trees is an iconic spot.

Reynalynn and Aaron reached out because they envisioned their engagement session surrounded by the beautiful Mesilla Pecan Trees. It had actually been several years since I last photographed a session here, so I was beyond excited to return and document such an exciting season of their lives.

From the moment we met, their excitement was contagious. They wanted photos that felt authentic, joyful, and reflected who they are as a couple. The soft light filtering through the rows of towering pecan trees created the perfect backdrop for exactly that.

A Surprise Proposal... Again

Just as we arrived, Aaron quietly pulled me aside and shared a surprise.

He had recently gotten Reynalynn a new engagement ring and wanted to recreate his proposal during their session. Of course, I was immediately on board.

We quickly came up with a plan without Reynalynn suspecting a thing. As we walked through the orchard, Aaron got down on one knee once again and asked her to marry him all over again.

Her reaction was priceless. There were happy tears, genuine surprise, and laughter. Even though they were already engaged, being able to relive such a meaningful moment made the session even more memorable. The unexpected memories often become the most cherished ones.

What It's Like Photographing at the Mesilla Valley Pecan Trees

Located along Highway 28 near Stahmanns Pecan Farm, these towering rows of pecan trees create a stunning natural tunnel unlike anywhere else in southern New Mexico. The symmetry of the trees, beautiful shade, and peaceful atmosphere make it an incredible backdrop for engagement photos throughout much of the year.

Since the orchard sits alongside a busy roadway, sessions here do require a little patience. We often pause between photos to watch for passing traffic and safely move around the area. I also recommend wearing light, breathable clothing, especially during the warmer months, as New Mexico temperatures can rise quickly.

Despite these small challenges, the beauty of the location is absolutely worth it. Every visit results in timeless, intimate images that feel natural.

Outfits That Perfectly Matched the Setting

One of my favorite parts of this session was how beautifully their outfits complemented the scenery.

For their first look, Reynalynn wore a gorgeous white flowy dress that moved effortlessly. Dresses with movement always photograph beautifully. Aaron paired her look perfectly with a light green button-up that blended naturally with the orchard while still allowing them both to stand out.

For their second outfit, they went with something a little bolder. Reynalynn changed into a short black dress paired with stunning red cowboy boots that added so much personality to the session. Aaron tied everything together with a red shirt and black jeans, creating a fun, western-inspired look that brought even more variety to their gallery.

Ending the Session with a Celebration

To wrap up the evening, Reynalynn and Aaron celebrated with a champagne pop beneath the pecan trees.

It's such a simple addition to an engagement session, but it creates some of the most joyful and candid moments.

Between the laughter, flying champagne, and excitement of celebrating this new chapter together, it was the perfect way to end their session. These are the kinds of moments that truly reflect your personalities and make your gallery scream you.
