A Private Wedding Day at Memorial Park in El Paso, Texas

Wedding days are some of my favorite moments to photograph as an El Paso wedding photographer. There’s something so special about being invited into such an important chapter of a couple’s life and getting to preserve the little moments they’ll look back on for years to come.

This wedding was a little more personal for me than most. My mom recently married her husband, and I had the privilege of not only being there to celebrate with them, but also to document this special season of their lives.

When Your Wedding Timeline Doesn’t Have Room for Everything

Their wedding day was filled with so many meaningful moments, but like many wedding days, the timeline was packed.

Between getting ready, celebrating with family and friends, the ceremony, and everything in between, there simply wasn’t enough time to step away and spend an hour taking portraits of just the two of them.

One thing I always remind my couples is that you do not have to fit every single photo you want into your wedding day timeline. Your wedding day should be about enjoying the people you love and being present for the moments happening around you.

If there’s a specific location you love or a certain type of portrait session you’ve always imagined, but it doesn’t quite fit into your wedding day, we can always plan something for another day.

A separate newlywed session gives you the opportunity to get dressed up again, revisit your favorite parts of the wedding day, and spend time together without watching the clock. There’s no rushing off to the reception, no worrying about missing cocktail hour, and no trying to squeeze an entire portrait session into a 15-minute window. Instead, you get to slow down and simply enjoy being married.

A Newlywed Session at Memorial Park

A few weeks after their wedding day, we planned a private portrait session to document their love in a completely different way.

My mom had mentioned that she loved greenery and wanted something that felt a little different from the typical desert landscapes we have here in El Paso.

While I absolutely love the desert scenery that makes the Borderland unique, finding lush greenery can sometimes be a little more challenging here. That’s one of the reasons I immediately thought of Memorial Park. She loved the idea, and it ended up being the perfect setting for their session.

Why Memorial Park Is One of My Favorite El Paso Locations

Memorial Park is such a beautiful location for couples who want their photos to feel a little more natural, relaxed, and surrounded by greenery.

The park has tall trees, open grassy areas, rolling hills, and plenty of little pockets that allow you to create variety throughout an entire session.

The stone bridge is one of my favorite features at Memorial Park and one of the reasons I love incorporating this location into couple sessions. The stone adds a little texture and character to the images while the surrounding greenery creates a beautiful contrast.

It gives the photos a feeling that almost makes you forget you're in El Paso for a moment.

For couples who love the idea of a romantic, garden-like setting but still want to stay close to home, Memorial Park can be such a fun option.

Creating a Session When You Don’t Have a Vision

One of my favorite things about this session was that my mom didn’t really have a specific vision for what she wanted, and that’s okay!

You don’t have to show up to your session with a Pinterest board, a list of poses, or a perfectly planned-out vision. Sometimes all you need is an outfit you love, someone you love, and a photographer who can help guide the rest.

For their session, I wanted it to feel less like a traditional wedding portrait session and more like a little getaway for the two of them. I imagined them spending a quiet afternoon together in the park, enjoying each other’s company, laughing, walking around, and soaking in this new chapter of their lives.

I wanted the overall feeling to be intimate and secluded, while still leaving room for some fun.

The Little Details Made It Their Own

My mom brought along her beautiful bouquet, which she actually made herself, along with some fun bride and groom glasses.

Those little details ended up being some of my favorite parts of the session.

Not every photo has to be serious or perfectly posed. Some of my favorite images are the ones where couples are laughing, being silly, or simply enjoying each other.

We incorporated a few photos with the glasses while also making sure we captured those romantic, quiet moments that really showcased their connection.

It was a mixture of everything I wanted the session to feel like: romantic, fun, personal, and completely them.

Your photos should feel like you.

If you’re thinking about booking a couples, engagement, or newlywed session but you have absolutely no idea what you want it to look like, don’t worry, that’s where I come in!

You don’t have to know the perfect location, the perfect poses, or even the overall vibe you want.

Part of my job as your photographer is helping you figure that out.

I can help recommend locations based on the type of scenery you love, help you plan outfits, guide you through poses, and create a session that feels natural instead of overly staged.

Whether you want something romantic and intimate, playful and adventurous, or relaxed and candid, we can create something that feels like you two.
