An Intimate Courthouse Elopement in El Paso, Texas
Elopements are so special. There’s something about getting married surrounded by just your partner and the people closest to you that makes the day feel intimate and meaningful.
As an El Paso photographer, I’ve had the opportunity to photograph my fair share of courthouse weddings, and every time, I fall in love with the couples, their stories, and all of the little moments that make their day uniquely theirs.
Alekzia and Luis reached out to me about their courthouse wedding in El Paso, wanting to celebrate their marriage surrounded by their close family. They envisioned an intimate day that would begin at the courthouse and continue into downtown El Paso, where we could document even more memories as newlyweds.
A Courthouse Ceremony That Felt Like a Traditional Wedding
Their day began in the early morning at the county courthouse. While courthouse weddings can sometimes be quick and simple, Alekzia and Luis's ceremony felt much more like a traditional wedding.
The judge allowed them to have an official ceremony, with Alekzia walking down the aisle toward Luis. The room had also been beautifully decorated, creating such a sweet and intimate setting.
They exchanged vows, had a ring ceremony, and, of course, shared their first kiss as husband and wife.
Their family cheered them on throughout the ceremony, making the room feel full of love and excitement.
Once the ceremony was over, they even had their very own newlywed walkout.
Celebrating Their Marriage in Downtown El Paso
After the ceremony, we continued the celebration in Downtown El Paso.
Alekzia mentioned how much she loved the architecture throughout downtown, so I recommended some of my favorite spots for their portraits.
We spent time taking photos with their friends and family before moving into portraits of just the two of them.
We eventually made our way toward the Plaza Theatre, located near the historic Hotel Paso del Norte, where we ended their session.
Throughout the entire afternoon, you could feel the love between these two. From the way they looked at each other to the little moments between poses.
Why Downtown El Paso Is Perfect for Newlywed Portraits
Downtown El Paso has so much history and character, making it such an iconic location for newlywed portraits.
From the historic architecture to the colorful buildings and landmarks like the Plaza Theatre and San Jacinto Plaza, there are so many opportunities to create a gallery that feels uniquely El Paso.
I also love that downtown gives couples the opportunity to get a variety of looks without having to travel far between locations. You can have classic architectural portraits, candid walking photos, romantic portraits, and fun photos with your family and friends.
For couples who want their courthouse wedding to feel like more than just a quick ceremony, spending some time taking portraits around downtown El Paso can be such a meaningful way to continue celebrating.
A Few Moments Just for the Two of Them
One thing I always encourage my couples to do, especially during an elopement or courthouse wedding, is make time for photos of just the two of you.
Courthouse weddings can feel quicker and more laid-back than a traditional full wedding day, but that doesn't mean you have to skip the romantic portraits.
Your wedding day deserves to be documented just as intentionally, whether you're celebrating with 100 guests or only the people closest to you.
Walking around downtown following their ceremony allowed us to document those newlywed moments without the pressure of a traditional wedding timeline.
These are some of my favorite moments to photograph because there is finally a chance for the couple to slow down, take a breath, and really take in the fact that they're married.

Making Time for Family
One of the sweetest parts of an intimate wedding is being surrounded by the people who mean the most to you.
Alekzia and Luis were able to celebrate with their closest family and friends, and we made sure to document those relationships throughout the day.
Family portraits are often the photographs you'll look back on years from now and remember exactly who was there to celebrate with you.
The Details That Made Their Day Personal
The details were another beautiful part of Alekzia and Luis's elopement.
Alekzia wore gorgeous Steve Madden white heels paired with a beautiful white and tan lace dress. One of my favorite details was her bouquet, which she told me she made herself the night before their wedding.
She created it with white roses and baby's breath, making it an especially meaningful part of her wedding day.
Luis wore a dark blue suit paired with a red tie, creating a classic and timeless look that complemented Alekzia beautifully.
Together, all of these little details made their day feel personal and completely their own.
