A Golden Hour Couples Session at Tom Lea Upper Park in El Paso
There’s a common misconception that you need a special occasion, milestone, or celebration to have professional photos taken. As an El Paso couples photographer, I love documenting all of the different seasons of a relationship, not just engagements and weddings, but the everyday kind of love that deserves to be remembered, too.
Jaylene and Ian reached out to me because they wanted to document this season of their relationship, and I absolutely loved that.
Ian mentioned how much he loved the views at Tom Lea Upper Park, and I was completely on board. Between the city views, the mountains, and the beautiful golden-hour light, it was the perfect setting for their couples session.
Why Tom Lea Upper Park Is Perfect for Couples Photos
Tom Lea Upper Park is one of those El Paso locations that never gets old. Located right near Scenic Drive, the overlook gives you beautiful views of El Paso, Ciudad Juárez, and the surrounding mountains. It’s especially beautiful around sunset.
For couples photography, I love locations like this because the scenery adds so much to the photos without taking attention away from the couple.
For Jaylene and Ian’s session, we started during golden hour so we could take advantage of that warm, soft light before sunset.
As the sun started getting lower, the light became even more golden, creating the perfect backdrop for their photos.
Western-Inspired Session Outfits
Jaylene and Ian also did such a great job coordinating their outfits without looking overly matched.
Jaylene wore a long, fitted brown dress with white sandals, creating a simple and timeless look that looked beautiful against the El Paso landscape. Later in the session, she swapped her sandals for cowboy boots, which gave the photos an entirely different feel and added the perfect western touch.
Ian complemented her with a tan button-up shirt, jeans, cowboy boots, and a cowboy hat.
I always recommend choosing colors and outfits that complement each other rather than perfectly matching. Neutral tones, earthy colors, and soft textures tend to photograph beautifully outdoors and help keep the focus on you.
Chasing the Sunset at Tom Lea Upper Park
As the sun continued to set, we moved closer to the overlook so we could incorporate more of the city into their photos.
I had Jaylene and Ian sit together, lean into each other, and simply enjoy being together while I captured the moments in between the poses.
The sky that evening was beautiful, and the combination of the sunset, city lights, and the two of them made for such a memorable session.
These are the kinds of photos that I love creating because years from now, they won’t just remember what they looked like. They’ll remember this particular season of their relationship and what it felt like to be together at that moment.
